NEW RESOURCE: Thesaurus Linguae Graecae Online

University of Liverpool staff and students now have access to Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG) Online.

The Thesaurus Linguae Graecae is a research program at the University of California, Irvine. Founded in 1972, the TLG has collected and digitized most literary texts written in Greek from Homer to the fall of Byzantium in AD 1453. Its goal is to create a comprehensive digital library of Greek literature from antiquity to the present era.

The Online TLG contains more than 110 million words from over 10,000 works associated with 4,000 authors and is constantly updated and improved with new features and texts.

New Wiley-Blackwell journal agreement

The Library has signed up to the new JISC Collections NESLi2 'Big Deal' journal agreement with Wiley-Blackwell.

Under the new agreement, which runs for 3 years from 2012 to 2014, we have decided to cancel a few low-use (but usually high-price) titles and we have been able to fund a subscription to Geography Compass which was requested in this year's journals review.

The previous agreement started in 2009 and the collection of titles that it included had been static sincethen. This new agreement includes over 130 additional titles which will be available to us from the start of 2012 (including History Compass which was also request in the journals review, and Literature Compass):

Oxford Bibliographies Online (OBO) is a tool designed to help busy researchers find reliable sources of information quickly by directing them to exactly the right chapter, book, website, archive, or data set they need for their research. It is a springboard for new research that allows for fluid movement between texts and databases within a given institution’s collection and beyond. It is a starting point for organizing a research plan, or for preparing a writing assignment or syllabus. The style and approach is accessible to students, but the depth of coverage makes it of great use to faculty as well.

OBO is a library of disciplined-based subject modules. In each subject module, leading scholars have produced a literary guide to the most important and significant sources in an area of study they know best. The guides feature a selective list of bibliographic citations supported by direct recommendations about which sources to consult. Each topic has a unique editorial commentary to show how the cited sources are interrelated. The citations promote discoverability as they link out to the sources via your library collection or through Google books and more.

OBO brings quality assurance and authority to online research. All articles receive multiple peer reviews and editorial board vetting to provide reliable and balanced coverage. Articles are regularly updated by their authors so that information in this resource is always current and accurate. In addition to updating existing articles, new topic guides are added on a regular schedule to expand the scope and extent of each subject module in the library.

TRIAL: Archives of Revista de Libros

We have a free trial of Revista de Libros until the end of October.

If we subscribe we’ll setup off-campus access through EZproxy of course.

Revista de Libros covers the latest intellectual trends in literature, science, philosophy, economics or history, among other fields. Triggered by the publication of one or several books -or just by the importance of a particular topic- distinguished experts and scholars monthly contribute with in-depth articles and essays.

Revista de Libros' first print issue appeared in 1996 and, after more than a decade, it has achieved a place of reference among cultural magazines in Spanish - as has TLS in the United Kingdom or The New York Review of Books in USA. The full archive contains more than 4,500 full-length articles and summaries about more than 15,000 books.

When a Palgrave Connect e-book is downloaded a watermarked coversheet is added, including the name of the subscribing institution.

We have purchased the Caribbean Literature database from Alexander Street Press and access is now available from:

Caribbean Literature is a searchable collection of poetry and fiction produced in the region during the 19th and 20th centuries. Among the titles selected by our editors are numerous rare and hard-to-find works written in English, French, Spanish, Dutch, and various Creole languages. Future releases will also feature journals, reference works, and interviews with key writers. New content is uploaded on a biweekly basis, giving users immediate access to a steadily growing treasury of classic, rare, and contemporary literature. The database currently has over 63,000 pages.

British Literary Manuscripts Online, c. 1660-1900, presents facsimile images of literary manuscripts, including letters and diaries, drafts of poems, plays, novels, and other literary works, and similar materials. Searching is based on tags and descriptive text associated with each manuscript. Images of the complete manuscript can be viewed, manipulated and navigated on screen. Please note that the text of the manuscripts themselves is not searchable.
