NEW RESOURCE: Thesaurus Linguae Graecae Online

University of Liverpool staff and students now have access to Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG) Online.

The Thesaurus Linguae Graecae is a research program at the University of California, Irvine. Founded in 1972, the TLG has collected and digitized most literary texts written in Greek from Homer to the fall of Byzantium in AD 1453. Its goal is to create a comprehensive digital library of Greek literature from antiquity to the present era.

The Online TLG contains more than 110 million words from over 10,000 works associated with 4,000 authors and is constantly updated and improved with new features and texts.

NEW RESOURCE: Loeb Classical Library Online

Staff and students now have access to the Loeb Classical Library Online, a virtual library of more than 520 volumes of Latin, Greek, and English texts. It covers epic and lyric poetry; tragedy and comedy; history, travel, philosophy, and oratory; the great medical writers and mathematicians. It features Single- and dual-language reading modes, a Greek keyboard, and search and browse options.

Translated Texts for Historians E-Library purchased

We have purchased the complete Translated Texts for Historians E-Library from our good friends on the other side of Abercromby Square, Liverpool University Press, on their MetaPress platform.

Access is available now. We will endeavour to activate them in SFX / find it @ liverpool so they can be found via Google Books and WorldCat, and they will be added to our catalogue and DISCOVER soon.

Translated Texts for Historians makes available sources translated from Greek, Latin, Syriac, Coptic, Arabic, Georgian and Armenian, published between 300 and 800 AD.  This period, from late antiquity to the early middle ages saw the transformation of the classical world, the beginnings of Europe and of Islam, and the evolution of Byzantium.  Each volume provides an expert scholarly translation, with an introduction setting texts and authors in context, and with notes on content, interpretation and debates.

Partnership with OUP for Oxford Bibliographies Online

The Library is delighted to announce it has entered into a one year partnership with Oxford University Press to help shape development of its exciting new resource Oxford Bibliographies Online.

The Library will offer staff and students at the University the opportunity to feed into the evolution of this resource through focus groups and questionnaires. In return for our help in developing the resource, Oxford University Press will grant us perpetual access to one of the subject bibliographies within the trial, regardless of whether we then choose to subscribe to the resource as a whole.

In the publisher’s words, “Oxford Bibliographies Online helps researchers and students find reliable sources of information to aid their research from within the enormous amount of print and online material available to them.

You can:
• Read a narrative guide to a subject area to get an overview of the subject before beginning detailed research
• Use the bibliography and supporting text provided to conduct more detailed research

Oxford Bibliographies Online (OBO) is a tool designed to help busy researchers find reliable sources of information quickly by directing them to exactly the right chapter, book, website, archive, or data set they need for their research. It is a springboard for new research that allows for fluid movement between texts and databases within a given institution’s collection and beyond. It is a starting point for organizing a research plan, or for preparing a writing assignment or syllabus. The style and approach is accessible to students, but the depth of coverage makes it of great use to faculty as well.

OBO is a library of disciplined-based subject modules. In each subject module, leading scholars have produced a literary guide to the most important and significant sources in an area of study they know best. The guides feature a selective list of bibliographic citations supported by direct recommendations about which sources to consult. Each topic has a unique editorial commentary to show how the cited sources are interrelated. The citations promote discoverability as they link out to the sources via your library collection or through Google books and more.

OBO brings quality assurance and authority to online research. All articles receive multiple peer reviews and editorial board vetting to provide reliable and balanced coverage. Articles are regularly updated by their authors so that information in this resource is always current and accurate. In addition to updating existing articles, new topic guides are added on a regular schedule to expand the scope and extent of each subject module in the library.

De Gruyter E-journals Collection available

From 2010 we have started subscription to the full collection of journals from De Gruyter. This adds access to nearly 80 titles in fields ranging from Classics to Medicine, on top of our existing subscriptions. The collection restores access to two titles that had to be cancelled in recent years despite of good levels of usage:
