The United Nations Law Collection is a complete online collection of exact reproductions of major United Nations legal publications.

The World Treaty Library brings together works identified from Oceana’s Consolidated Treaty Series, Hein’s U.S. Treaty Index, Rohn’s World Treaty Index, Dumont, Wiktor, Martens, the League of Nations, and the United Nations Treaty Series, covering the time period from 1648 to the present. All together more than 160,000 treaty records have been identified.  Also included are hundreds of treaty related publications, a bibliography of select titles of importance to world treaty research, and hundreds of the best, and most-cited law review articles related to treaty research.

Lexis Library content expanded to include Commonwealth sources

Our Lexis Library subscription now includes access to an expanded range of Commonwealth legal sources, including case law, legislation, commentary, journals and news for Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore and New Zealand.

The new content will be searched automatically in addition to the existing content, or you can select the Sources tab and Browse Sources by selecting Commonwealth as the Country:

Resource of the week: Lexis Library

What is it?
Lexis Library provides full-text access to case law, legislation and expert commentary, including access to key sources such as the All England Law Reports and Halsbury’s Laws of England. Updated daily, Lexis Library also includes full-text articles from legal, business and trade publications, annual reports and other company information and UK local and national newspapers.  Use the specific search tabs, such as Cases or Legislation, depending on what it is you are looking for, in order to make your search more precise.

Lexis Library is not searched by DISCOVER, so you need to search the database directly to access the content.

Why use it?

• To find online versions of cases and/or legislation
• To trace the judicial history of a case
• To find out about the status of a piece of legislation
• To find journal articles on specific legal topics
• To find cases which have interpreted specific pieces of legislation in court
• To access major legal reference works (also available directly from the library catalogue)
• To find articles from UK local and national newspapers

Index to Legal Periodicals and Books now on EBSCO

Following the acquisition of the HW Wilson Company by (or is that the merger with?) EBSCO, we now have access to Index to Legal Periodicals and Books on the EBSCOhost platform, and it is included in DISCOVER searches (main profile and the Social Sciences profile).

We've updated the links in our catalogue and LibGuides. You'll find it at http://search.ebscohost.com.ezproxy.liv.ac.uk/login.aspx?authtype=ip&profile=EHOST&defaultdb=ilh.

Trials of databases on EBSCOhost

If we adopt EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) it will make sense to switch any abstracting and indexing databases that we currently take through other platforms to EBSCO instead (where possible). This will mean that they will be searched by the main EDS search, rather than having to bring in search results through its federated search component.

We are currently trialling all of the databases that it would be possible to switch to EBSCO. These all renew at different times of the year. The first to renew (with links to try them on the EBSCO platform) are, next month:

British Nursing Index

Taking these on the EBSCO platform would reunite them with Cinahl and allow us to simultaneously search AMED, BNI and Cinahl, even without recourse to EBSCO Discovery Service.

De Gruyter E-journals Collection available

From 2010 we have started subscription to the full collection of journals from De Gruyter. This adds access to nearly 80 titles in fields ranging from Classics to Medicine, on top of our existing subscriptions. The collection restores access to two titles that had to be cancelled in recent years despite of good levels of usage:

De Gruyter is celebrating 260 years of publishing and has recently announced a rebranding and modernisation of its image. It intends to increase the proportion of its output that is published in the English language.

Oxford Scholarship Online Law collection

We have purchased the Oxford Scholarship Online Law collection and access is available now from http://www.oxfordscholarship.com.ezproxy.liv.ac.uk/oso/public/law/subject_home.html. We will be adding catalogue records for all titles soon.

The Oxford Scholarship Online collection includes titles from the series: Oxford Studies in European Law, Oxford Monographs in International Law, Oxford Monographs in Criminal Law and Justice, Clarendon Studies in Criminology, Oxford Monographs in Labour Law, Oxford Studies in Modern Legal History, Oxford Studies in International Economic Law, and the International Courts and Tribunals series, alongside other works selected from OUP legal publishing.

We have purchased the initial collection of 150 titles. More titles are added every 4 months, but we will only have access to those if we purchase those updates.

We currently subscribe to Index to Legal Periodicals & Books in print. We have a trial of the online version until the end of March. To access this trial go to:

Note that we are trialling the full-text version of this database (which costs roughtly three times the print subscription but we will evaluate its full-text coverage against existing subscriptions). The index-only online version is about twice the price of the print version.
