Sydney Jones Library Study Space Development

Refurbishment work in the Grove Wing is progressing well.

The book move is complete and furniture for the 280 new study spaces is being delivered.  Work to ensure that new desks have their own power supply is also underway.  On the 18th August materials moved off site for the duration of the project will be returned to ensure they are accessible in time for Welcome week.

Library staff have been busy running the retrieval service for staff and students.  We have retrieved over 2000 items for students and staff and processed 93 inter-library loan requests.

A full update on the refurbishment with photographs and details of its progress can be found on the SJL refurbishment webpage.

Emerald platform migration

In August 2014, Emerald will migrate their research content to a new platform, with enhanced usability and design features.

It is not anticipated that access to Emerald content will be interrupted, and any personal profile accounts that you have created will be transferred over to the new site. However, you will be unable to make edits to your profile (including the settings and preferences) until the migration is completed.   After the migration you will be prompted to reset the username and password for your individual profile.

Take a look at the Emerald FAQ site for more information about the migration;

Harold Cohen Library Refurbishment - 18th July update

The HCL Refurbishment continues and the work is producing some considerable noise.  Some walls are being knocked down, concrete pillars in the upper stacks are being removed, and the creation of the large hole to take the new central staircase is underway!

The windows are also being replaced so affected areas will be temporarily out of bounds to enable this work to proceed. The disruption will all be worth it in the long run when we have the new study areas on the upper floors that will considerably increase the student study capacity of the building plus a completely redesigned ground floor and entrance area.

The Library remains open from 8.30 am to 6.00 pm, Monday to Friday, with access via the side entrance between the Library and the Sherrington Building.  Here is the current status, and for more information plus some photographs of the ongoing work see HCL Refurbishment:
