Planned Downtime: Elsevier

Elsevier are planning scheduled maintenance for the following resources, from 11.30pm on Saturday 1st August for approximately 4.5 hours:

• ScienceDirect, 
• Scopus (including Author Feedback Wizard), 
• Engineering Village
• Reaxys

ScienceDirect and Scopus experiencing technical difficulties

Monday 8th June 2015:

Elsevier are currently experiencing a service outage of their ScienceDirect and Scopus resources due to unforeseen technical issues.  They report that they are working to resolve them as soon as possible, and apologise for the inconvenience caused.

New Elsevier journal agreement

The Library has signed up to the new JISC Collections NESLi2 'Big Deal' journal agreement with Elsevier.

Under the new agreement, which runs for 5 years from 2012 to 2016, we have decided to cancel a few low-use (but usually high-price) titles:

Some of these have not been available to us before because they are not included in the Freedom Collection, and others are our best-used, non-subscribed titles in the collection. By subscribing to these titles we will earn permanent access to the content published during our subscription. We are only subscribing to new titles where usage statistics show that a reasonable number of abstracts have been viewed, suggesting that there is demand for these titles.

TRIAL: Reaxys - DiscoveryGate Replacement

We have a trial of Elsevier's new platform for Beilstein and Gmelin, Reaxys, until 15th May 2009.

To access this trial go to www.reaxys.com. Off-campus users should use the Windows Terminal Service version of Internet Explorer. If we proceed with a subscription we will set up access via EZproxy as usual.

Reaxys has been designed by chemists to improve the workflow of chemistry researchers. Its search, analysis and workflow tools are designed around the needs and common tasks of users, including:

- Synthesis planner to design the optimum synthesis route
- Multi-step reactions to identify precursor reactions underlying synthesis of target compounds
- Additional search capabilities such as the ability to generate structure query from names or phrases
- Search result filters by key properties, synthesis yield, or other ranking criteria
- Results visualization
- Similarity search
- Transformation analysis
