JoVE, the Journal of Visualized Experiments, is a peer reviewed scientific video journal.  ‘Science Education: General Laboratory Techniques’  is a video database dedicated to teaching laboratory fundamentals through easy to understand video demonstrations.  It exhibits how to use standard pieces of laboratory equipment essential in many experiments, as well as how to perform basic laboratory functions

Psychological Experiments Online is a multimedia online resource that synthesizes the most important psychological experiments of the 20th and 21st centuries, fostering deeper levels of understanding for students and scholars alike. The collection pairs 75 hours of audio and video recordings of the original experiments (when existent) with 40,000 pages of primary-source documents. It’s packed with exclusive and hard-to-find materials including notes from experiment participants, journal articles, books, field notes, letters penned by the lead psychologist, videos of modern-day replications, and modifications to the original experiments.

Box of Broadcasts (BoB National) Now Available

We now have access to Box of Broadcasts (BoB).

BoB is an innovative shared online off-air TV and radio recording service for UK higher and further education institutions which makes the discovery and use of valuable TV and radio content for education easy and instant.  BoB enables all staff and students to choose and record any broadcast programme from 60+ TV and radio channels.  You can search transcripts and create your own playlists or clips which can be embedded in VITAL.

BiblioBoard Library now available

BiblioBoard Library is a multi-media database featuring historical content on a wide variety of topics.

Thousands of pages of primary source content (maps, letters, pamphlets, documents, diaries, photos and images), as well as historical books and articles, streaming audio and video content, have been expertly organised into anthologies. The database currently includes over 200 anthologies on a wide variety of topics and will grow to 400 anthologies over the next year.

'Pidgeon Digital' now available

Pidgeon Digital is the online version of The Pidgeon Audiovisual collection of illustrated talks by architects and related designers.

The collection was founded in 1979 by Monica Pidgeon (long-time editor of the influential magazine Architectural Design) so as to be able to hear the actual voices of the designers of buildings and listen to their ideas. Monica sadly died in 2009 at the age of 95 (there is a video of her memorial service in November 2009 on the website). Her work of producing new recordings for the website is being continued by Peter Murray. Peter trained as an architect but moved into architectural writing and editing. He worked as Technical Editor of Architectural Design under Monica Pidgeon, edited Building Design and the RIBA Journal before founding Blueprint Magazine. He is Chairman of the New London Architecture centre, chairman of Wordsearch, a consultancy explaining and promoting architecture, planning and the built environment, and he is Founder Director of the London Festival of Architecture.

The original series took the form of a series of tape/slide talks, each consisting of a 30 minute audio-cassette and 24 time-coded colour slides. In order to preserve this archive the audio and the images have been carefully digitised and presented as online time-coded presentations. In addition the digitised images have been tagged and now form a searchable online image library for use by students and academics.
