This session will look at open access publishing and why it may be of interest to researchers. It will describe what open access publishing is, how and why it started and the business model behind it. Focus will be on the different types of open access, known as Gold and Green, and identifying who the main open access publishers are along with background on BioMed Central which will highlight a couple of their journals and explain how they fit within the parent company, Springer.
