New Library app for iOS

The new Library app for iOS introduces some great features to help you get the most out of the Library.

Can't find your student card? In a hurry? Use your digital ID card to pass through the Library's entry and exit gates by scanning your phone.

Your books on loan are also displayed in detail, so you can see due dates and renew books directly from the app.

Need a copy of something that the University doesn't stock or could have more of? Scan a book's ISBN directly from the app to request new copies to be purchased.

We're not stopping there though - future updates to the app will include enhanced account management features, as well as improvements based on user feedback.

So, download the app and let us know what you think.

Published by Oxford University Press since 1995, this resource offers new books every year for students, scholars and the avidly curious. New resource: Statista

Statista is a statistics portal that provides data on over 80,000 topics including consumer goods, technology, the internet, travel and tourism.  Although primarily aimed at students in the Management School, it will be useful for anyone trying to find data or statistics. All statistics, infographics and reports can be downloaded in a variety of formats including PNG, PDF and PPT and include citation guidance

New Resource: SNL

University of Liverpool staff and Student now have access to SNL from S&P Global.

Access: SNL

You will need to register for an account the first time you use this resource:

• Select ‘New User Sign Up’ on the Sign In screen
• Enter you University of Liverpool email address and click ‘sumbit’
• Instructions for setting up your account will be sent to your email address, with a link to complete registration
• Follow the instructions to create a log in for SNL

SNL FIG (Financial Institutions Group) provides access to banking and insurance data across the globe with coverage of around 35,000 institutions. In addition to archived financial data, that is fully auditable back to source, this platform provides “deep-dive” proprietary data. Data from this platform is cited within publications from the likes of the ECB, Bank of England etc.

For research purposes we strongly recommend use of the Excel Plug-In, downloadable within the platform.

Financial items:
• 100 to 600+ data items per bank depending on their size and market
• Credit ratings from the 3 major agencies, CDS, structure, country profiles etc.
• All manually entered and stringently vetted
• Detailed credit metrics and regulatory capital details

Proprietary data examples:
• Exclusive news from SNL editorial not available elsewhere
• Branch level data (non-financial) for larger banks

This HeinOnline collection brings together a multitude of essential legal materials on slavery in the United States and the English-speaking world. This includes every statute passed by every colony and state on slavery, every federal statute dealing with slavery, and all reported state and federal cases on slavery. Cases go into the 20th century, because long after slavery was ended, there were still court cases based on issues emanating from slavery. HeinOnline have gathered every English-language legal commentary on slavery published before 1920, which includes many essays and articles in obscure, hard-to-find journals in the United States and elsewhere. There are more than a thousand pamphlets and books on slavery from the 19th century, plus many modern histories of slavery. Within this library is a section containing all modern law review articles on the subject.  The resource provides word searchable access to all Congressional debates from the Continental Congress to 1880.

It has a particular focus on the investigation of unreported cases, and comprehensive review and discussion of legal documents and important policy developments.

TradeLawGuide provides an effective way to systematically search across World Trade Organization documentation. The database tools enable you to find WTO jurisprudence, the text of WTO agreements and dispute settlement documents alongside other documents that can be difficult to trace. TradeLawGuide should be useful for both teaching and research.

To mark 100 years since the beginning of World War One, TSO has produced a carefully selected collection of official documents relating to the war. Dating from 1914 to 1927, the bibliography lists 100 key military, political and strategic documents published by the British government throughout this period. It includes original reports of key events and Gazette notices of awards and commemorations.

Migration to New Worlds explores the movement of peoples from Great Britain, Ireland, mainland Europe and Asia to the New World and Australasia during the period 1800 to 1924, known as ‘The Century of Immigration’.

The resource covers all aspects of the migration experience, from departures to arrival and permanent settlement. It presents a unique insight into the personal stories of migrants during this period. Letter collections, travel journals, diaries and oral histories provide a wealth of first-hand accounts for research into emigration experiences and the hardship of settlement. These are supplemented by scrapbooks, government papers, hand-drawn maps, watercolours, objects, emigration pamphlets, shipping papers and rare printed material which provide significant context to the history of migration, legislation and living conditions during this period.

The British Politics and Society archive in Nineteenth Century Collections Online includes tens of thousands of historical primary sources relating to the social and  political climate in Great Britain during the “long” nineteenth century. Research and explore a range of primary sources covering such topics as British domestic and foreign policy, the working class, trade unions, Chartism, Owenism, public protest, radical movements, the cartographic record, political reform, education, family relationships, religion, and leisure.

NEW RESOURCE: EBSCO eBook Clinical Collection

University of Liverpool staff and students now have access to the Ebsco eBook Clinical Collection.

The Ebsco eBook Clinical Collection contains over 2,000 titles focusing on medical specialties, nursing, allied health and general practice areas.

Titles are from 2008 onwards, with a significant majority published after 2010 and all have unlimited simultaneous user access. Newer titles replace older content as they become available, so users always have access to the latest information.

NEW RESOURCE: LWW Health Library

University of Liverpool staff and students now have access to LWW Health Library

LWW Health Library contains full text access to selected biomedical and basic science books. It also contains hundreds of cases, each with a brief description for use in case or problem-based learning; “Web-responsive design” that recognizes the device in use and adjusts the view accordingly; multimedia such as videos, animations, and quiz banks compatible with iOS devices for uninterrupted viewing, user engagement tools; and more.

NEW RESOURCE: Thesaurus Linguae Graecae Online

University of Liverpool staff and students now have access to Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG) Online.

The Thesaurus Linguae Graecae is a research program at the University of California, Irvine. Founded in 1972, the TLG has collected and digitized most literary texts written in Greek from Homer to the fall of Byzantium in AD 1453. Its goal is to create a comprehensive digital library of Greek literature from antiquity to the present era.

The Online TLG contains more than 110 million words from over 10,000 works associated with 4,000 authors and is constantly updated and improved with new features and texts.
