New Westlaw and LexisNexis Butterworths sites

Both Westlaw and LexisNexis have new look sites this year which are much more intuitive to use – good news for those of us who aren’t in the Law dept and don’t use these resources every day.

LexisNexis Professional no longer exists. The service is now called LexisNexis Butterworths. It integrates the newspapers, law reports, legislation and legal journals into one product. LexisNexis Professional no longer appears on our list of available Athens resources.

Westlaw is also much easier to use these days. In particular, News now appears on the navigation bar straight away, rather than having to add News as an extra tab. Most of the journals, law reports, legislation and commentary texts in Westlaw now appear in the SFX A-Z list and will appear in the OPAC soon. This will improve the online visibility of such titles (especially to non-lawyers). We hope to be able to add (at least some of) the Westlaw newspapers to SFX and the OPAC soon.

Similarly, we hope to add title-level links to the journals, law reports, legislation and newspapers in LexisNexis Butterworths to SFX and the OPAC before too long. In the meantime we have updated our
help page about how to locate and search resources within LexisNexis Butterworths.

In both cases, you still need to login to Athens first (both on and off campus) and then follow the link to Westlaw or LexisNexis Butterworths.
